Index
Alias: Wescott /Westcoat/, wascoat
Individual Note: At this time (10/1/06) I have no proof other than Rootweb posting about her being married to Josiah. Have emailed people asking for proof of marriage. Others have Josiah married to Margaret Westcoat or Westcot but cannot find that name in any of the vital records for the area. Have found Wascoat in the middleboro vitals

Individual Note: (From Rootsweb posting of Maitland Dirk Brower) # Note: In 'Chronicles of the Haskell Family,' Ira J. Haskell notes that because of destruction of town records it is difficult to trace the descendants of Josiah Haskell and his two wives. He lists seven children of Josiah's first marriage to Sarah Kanaday/Cannedy: Elijah b 1718, Benjamin b 1719, Betty/Elizabeth b 1720, Noah b 1721, Patience b 1724, Hannah b 1726, Sarah b unknown. He lists one child of Josiah's second marriage to Sarah Braley/Brayley: Josiah b 1731.The Vital Records of Middleborough, Massachusetts, show both marriages of Josiah and that five children were born to Josiah and his first wife, and one child born to the second marriage. According to the Vital Records, children of the first marriage were: Benjamin b 3-8-1718/19, Betty b 6-22-1720, Noah b "sometime in the month of November 1721", Patience b 8-25-1724, and Hannah b 6-6-1726. The Vital Records show one child of the second marriage: Josiah b 1-17-1730/31.Other sources list nine children from Josiah's first marriage by adding two children to Ira Haskell's list: Josiah b 1730 and Barzillai b 1777. Both of these additions likely are erroneous. The date of 1777 for Barzillai is his date of death. The same source shows two children of Josiah's second marriage: Josiah b 1730 and Zuriel b 1742.The children listed here for the marriages of Josiah to Sarah Cannedy and to Sarah Brayley are from 'Mayflower Families in Progress: George Soule,' 3rd Edition, 1999 and do not agree with Ira Haskell's 'Chronicles' or with George L. Randall's 'Genealogy of Roger Haskell of Salem, MA.'
